Roll Handling
The ACTIV Paper and Roll Handling System provides cost savings
by automating the roll handling storage and retrieval process.
All of
the
benefits of using the ACTIV system, including a maximized
space usage and high throughput, can be applied to any
roll handling facility.

Retrotech will design
and build rack structures to handle any size roll.
By installing an ACTIV roll handling system your company
can reduce labor costs and equipment needed for a manual
handling system.
In addition, roll damage, inherent
in a manual paper roll handling operation, is significantly
reduced. The ACTIV system handles both work-in-process
and finished product rolls. Work-in-process rolls are
automatically transported to the different stages of
production, which decreases the number of times that
the roll will be handled manually. Finished rolls are
automatically sorted and staged within the system and
then transported to the shipping dock.

ACTIV and Roll Handling
Modern material
handling requires state-of-the-art systems capable of providing
users with a greater
level of control over material transportation activities within their
facilities. To be competitive in today’s global marketplace,
many of our North American paper roll handling operations are looking
toward modernization and, in most cases, modernization means full
supply chain automation. Paper mills spend millions of dollars on
research
to raise product quality, but they also lose millions through the
mishandling of their paper rolls.
ACTIV is a unique
dynamic-flow through system that all but eliminates direct
handling during the mill phase
of the supply chain. In addition,
ACTIV with its automated sortation and staging capabilities provides
an opportunity for cost savings in both the utilization of material
handling space and in the control of the entire supply chain.
Dynamic flow-through systems function with minimum space requirements
while offering maximum throughput capabilities. The software intelligence
behind these systems allows sorting, storage, and staging to take
place within the same footprint.
Higher density—as much as 95%—can
be achieved because the need for standard aisles is eliminated. With
forklifts no longer
required
to move the individual rolls within the system, clamping of the rolls
is reduced to when the roll leaves the system. This lower the potential
for product damage considerably.
Dynamic flow-through systems can be integrated into both existing
building and new facilities, making them a very flexible technology—a
technology that will put our North American paper mills ahead of
their competition.
